Harlequins Sevenths 2
Dromore Ladies Fifths 1

DROMORE Ladies Fifths travelled to Belfast on Friday night to play Harlequins Sevenths.

Dromore had difficulty getting a team together so the club would like to say thank you to everyone who gave up their Friday night t
o play.

After a shaky start from Dromore, Harlequins managed to take the lead very early in the game.

A goal down, Dromore kept their heads up and picked up their game with good attacking play from Michaela Neill and Jessica Davidson in midfield. And with well timed runs from Ashton Tolerton, Vicky Lowey and Lynne Nesbitt up front, Dromore were unlucky not to score.

Harlequins fought back but Svenja Young, Andrea Wilson and Aimee Thompson worked well together to get the ball out of the danger zone.

Beth Gowdy made a good tackle and passed the ball to Vicky who ran round the Harlequins defence with ease. However her shot was saved by the goal keeper.

Dromore won a few penalty corners but just couldn't get the ball into the net.

After the half time team talk Dromore came out strong but like in the first half Harlequins scored early after a lucky break into the circle. Karen Johnston had been under pressure throughout the game and saved the first shot but the Harlequins player pushed the ball into the corner of the net after the rebound.

Dromore were now 2-0 down and after many shots on target from Vicky, Kiera and Ashton they were still unfortunate not to score.

With five minutes to go Aimee stopped the Harlequins attack and found Micheala. Micheala hit an accurate ball out to Kiera on the right who ran past a Harlequins defender and into the circle where she hit the ball only to find the keeper's pads but the ball bounced off the keeper and back into Kiera's path. She then hit a reverse shot which found the corner off the goal seconds after the whistle for full time went.

Dame of the Game went to Aimee Thompson who played really well and prevented Harlequins from scoring anymore goals. Thanks to Jo Titterington for umpiring and to all the drivers who travelled to Belfast.
