A young feel to new Baker branch!
Apprentice Boys of Derry Baker Club Portadown Branch.INPT09-641.
A NEW branch of the Apprentice Boys of Derry with a distinctly young feel has been formed in Portadown.
The Portadown Baker branch was formally launched during an official ceremony at Carleton Street Orange Hall last Saturday night.
Comprising 34 new members, the club got off the ground in October, and the biggest day in its short history came with the official opening on Saturday.
Spokesman Kyle Moore said, “We are hoping to reignite interest in the Apprentice Boys in Portadown. The Orange and the Black are very popular in the town but we feel there is interest in another Apprentice Boys club. It was a big event because this was the first new club opening in Portadown in about 30 years.
“What is great about the club is the age of the members. Most are very young, they are almost all under the age of 25.”
Last Saturday’s event was well attended, with members of the general committee travelling to Portadown, along with Apprentice Boys from clubs in Belfast, Holywood and Dunmurry.
The officers elected are as follows: President - Aaron Graham; vice-president - Neil Gillespie; treasurer - Stuart Milne; secretary - James Kyle Moore; Chaplain - Joe Bowles; Tyler - Ryan Reavie, first committee member - Marc McCart.
