A NEW shop has opened in Markethill, with the unique selling-point of catering for all ages, shapes and sizes.

Nutmeg is based on the site of the former Anna’s Store in Main Street, and had been opened by Myrtle McClelland-Edgar who worked in Anna’s for the past eight years.

The shop stocks ladies’ fashions and school uniforms as well as gifts, wool and other haberdashery items.

Although it only opened Saturday fortnight ago, the shop has been bustling, with local people eager to see the new fashions.

Tracey Bell, Myrtle’s daughter, said, “The response has been excellent. There has been lots of local support and very positive feedback.”

In fact, to display the range of fashions on sale, both Tracey and Myrtle, along with Myrtle’s mother Evelyn McCreary, were all wearing the latest fashion outfits from Nutmeg while Tracey’s daughter Arianne (4) modelled one of the school uniforms which the shop will stock.

Myrtle has worked in fashion and school uniform retail for the past 22 years and says Nutmeg will stock original, wearable fashion at very reasonable prices, as well as uniforms for Markethill Primary School, Mountnorris Primary School and Markethill High School.

She said, “I’m very excited about my new venture. The shop looks fabulous and I hope that everyone will like my gorgeous spring/summer range that will cater for all ages, shapes and sizes.”

Tracey, who will be assisting her mum, has a keen eye for fashion, having previously worked as a model for designers such as John Rocha and David Emanuel, famed for designing Princess Diana’s wedding dress.

She said, “I already have my eyes on a few lovely outfits that I can’t wait to try on. We have fashions coming from Germany, Italy, Spain and, of course, Ireland and the UK.”

Myrtle added, “We’ve got the shop up and ready in just 12 days – it’s been intense, but I’ve had a lot of support from friends and family. None of this would have been possible without them. I would also like to thank the people of Markethill for all their support so far and I look forward to seeing all of them in Nutmeg.”
