YOUNG people aged between 14 and 19 in the Seagoe Youth Group have formed a new youth forum.

The forum aims to work with community groups, local representatives, politicians and young people to improve and expand facilities, provision and relationships within the community through creative and innovative methods.

The following members were elected as representatives of Seagoe Youth Forum; Casey Wright – chairperson;

Chloe Metcalf – vice-chairperson; Hannah Cadden – treasurer; Jessica Bingham – secretary; committee members - Jordan Ritchie, Luke Hobson, Jayne Stewart, Neil Hazelton, Nicole Whittle, Jake Lynch, Emily Roney, Glen McNiece, Andrew Moore.

The youth forum is representing young people at management committee meetings and Seagoe Youth Group at events held by the SELB to raise their profile and gain further experience. They are also planning the development and direction of the youth forum and its actions for the forthcoming year.

Sean Irving, SELB youth worker in charge, said, “This is is an exciting time for Seagoe Youth Group as these young people have the commitment and vision to be a successful youth forum. I look forward to working with them in developing provision for young people in the area.”

He explained, “The forum aims to give young people the opportunity to take ownership of their provision and be responsible for encouraging change within their community.

“ In order to reach their goal the young people embarked on a personal development programme to improve their personal skills to ensure a proactive approach as a youth forum. The young people recently participated in a residential where they presented their skills to the group in order to be elected as formal representatives.”

The Youth Forum thanked the SELB for supporting their development.
