Trust recieves lottery boost
PLANS to tackle alcohol misuse in the Southern Trust have received a major boost from the Big Lottery Fund amounting to over a million pounds.
The lottery fund has awarded £1,340,305 to eight projects working with the Southern Health and Social Care Trust to tackle the range of issues that result from alcohol misuse.
The funding is part of a major £7 million investment by the Big Lottery Fund to the five health and social care trusts to identify voluntary and community-led projects in Northern Ireland.
Projects being run in the Southern Health and Social Care Trust area, which takes in the Craigavon area, include an initiative providing support for chronic drinkers and their families, a scheme working with isolated young people at risk of misusing alcohol and a service to prevent people living with alcohol misuse from ending up in hospital.
Midwifery Services at Craigavon Area Hospital and Daily Hill will use a grant £110,803 to run an Alcohol Liaison Midwifery Service to provide advice and support for women across the Southern Health Trust who use alcohol during their pregnancy.
