ASDA was due to open a £40 million store in Portadown later in the year and they were advertising for staff in July.

And the response was amazing with initial applications for the 450 jobs reaching about 2,000, and this would increase even more later in the year.

Meanwhile elsewhere in July Drumcree 14 passed off peacefully but a solution to the impasse was as far away as ever. After the service in Drumcree Parish Church to mark the Battle of the Boyne District Officer David Jones told police at the barrier that the men who had died in WW1 had done so “for the very civil rights that you are denying us.”

Eight year old Chloe Johnston was re-united with her pet corn snake, Boots, after six months apart. She was delighted to have him back after the snake was cared for in the premises of LA Pets on teh Mahon Road.

It was revealed that a record-breaking 11,000 applications were made for the 450 jobs at the new Asda store in Portadown.

This year’s summer scheme at Richmount Primary School and the multi-games were was the biggest and most successful yet. It included trips to Odyssey and W5, Dundonald Ice Bowl and Sarsfield Youth Club for a fun day.

Portadown College A-level students maintained their excellent results record in line with previous years with an overall pass rate in grades A to E.

September 2012 was a landmark date in the history of Lismore Comprehensive School as they prepared to celebrated 40 years of service as a school to the local community. Lismore opened in September 1972.
