Lots of variety at Loughgall sale

GOOD furniture, fine furnishings, lots of Irish art, collectibles, clocks, silver and jewellery make up the 550 lots in McAfee Auctions sale at the Old Court House, Main Street, Loughgall tonight (Thursday).

  “There is really something for everyone,” said Gerry McAfee, nice quality furniture and furnishings for the homeowner, and a nice selection of Irish art, collectibles, solid silver and jewellery, ideal Christmas presents for the discerning collector.

  Among the many pieces of furniture worthy of note is a nice partners desk, dining room table, chair sets, display cabinets, sideboards, occasional tables, and a lot of spoonback, open and other chairs, sofa tables, a very nice art nouveau hall stand, games table, sewing box, a marble top washstand, table top display cabinet bookcase, walnut double bedstead, etc etc.

  Collectibles include mason ironstone, ruby, staffordshire, Waterford and other crystal, beswick, hummell and doulton figurines, imari, crown ducal, brass, copper, tea and dinner sets, medals, prints, pictures, silver plate, etc.

  A larger number of paintings is included in this sale and include works by G W Morrison, Gerry Glynn, Des Murrie, Gregory Moore, J P Rooney, Nigel Allison and Con Campbell to name but a few.

  A private collection of three longcase clocks and a selection of double and spring viennas, free swingers, a double scroll drop dial, a three piece onyx clock set, and other mantle clocks are included in the sale as is a nice selection of solid silver including a delightful footed tea caddy, a large capstan inkwell, serving, caddy and other spoons and cutlery, candlesticks, dishes, snuff, vesta and other small boxes, strainer, jug and sugar, tankard etc.

  Among the more unusual lots on offer is a sectional bookcase, music cabinet, stick barometer, pair of bedside cabinets, dressing table set, imari wall plate, gilt and mahogany wall mirrors, two masonic medals, walking canes, two parosols, a collection of pot lids, mahogany tazza, selection of ruby, collectors plate etc.

  The sale will be conducted by catalogue and screen in The Famous Grous, Ballyhagan Road, Loughgall on Thursday, commencing at 7pm.
