Superb maths success by the College pupils

PORTADOWN College pupils have enjoyed unprecedented success in the UK Senior Maths Challenge.
Each year over 98,000 students across the UK enter the competition. Ten per cent of these are awarded gold and a further 20 per cent silver.
The certificate winners this year at the College are as follows: Gold - Yishen Wang, who was also awarded best in school. She has just received a distinction in the follow-on Olympiad thus qualifying her for the next stage. This is the first time a College student has progressed to the second round of Olympiads. Thomas Trouton, who qualified for the Kangaroo follow-on round, and was awarded a merit certificate.
Silver: Steven Haugh, who was also awarded Best in Year 14, Stuart Nesbitt, Gareth Reid, Jana Kordova, Paul Cahoon, Calvin Poon, Clarissa Hewitt, Laura Boyce, Emma Toase, Harry Quinn and Simon Barbour, David Whiteman, Jordan McMullen and Ross Calvert
A further 19 students were awarded a bronze certificate.
The UK Maths Trust Team Challenge is a UK wide team challenge for Years 13 and 14. The following students competed in the Northern Ireland regional round - Chris Davies, Stuart Nesbitt, Matthew Dowdsewell and Thomas Trouton
The QUB Team Challenge is a competition organised each year by QUB for Years 13 and 14.
The College team were awarded certificates of commendation. The team comprised Christian Cowan, Steven Haugh, Christine Tate and Yishen Wang
