PORTADOWN girl Charlotte McClelland will be weaving her magic when she stars in one of the leading roles in the Moyraverty Arts & Drama Society (MADS) production of Sleeping Beauty.
Charlotte, from Ridgeway Park, is to play the evil fairy Maleficent who puts a spell on the princess, played by Lismore pupil Caitlin Sherry.
The show starts next Thursday at St Anthony’s Centre, Brownlow, and there will be a total of four perform
ances.
The Clounagh Junior High School pupils has been with MADS for over a year and has performed in Peter Pan and Les Miserables School Edition.
She is presently studying for her grade six in speech and drama with Jacqui Keegan and her grade two in singing with Caitriona Corr.
Charlotte is also a keen dancer and attends the Donna Whitten School of Dance.
Producer of the show Kieran Corr said, "Everyone at the drama group thinks very highly of Charlotte. She always works hard at rehearsals and in such a short period of time she has impressed our production team. Charlotte deserves one of the lead roles for this production and she has a very bright future ahead of her with the drama group.
“Charlotte can sing, act and dance to a very high standard and all of these talents will be portrayed in the production of Sleeping Beauty.”
The version of the fairy tale has been rewritten for the stage and goes along the same lines as the popular fairytale.
Added Kieran, “Sleeping Beauty will suit the whole family and with both Charlotte and Caitlin performing in it, the show is proving to be of a very high standard."
Sleeping Beauty opens next Thursday, October 22 at St Anthony's Centre with a 7pm performance. It continues on Friday at 7.30pm, Saturday at 5pm and closes on Sunday with a 7pm start.
