THE newly-formed Portadown College Parent-Teacher Association's first social event will be staged next Friday (February 29).
Its remit being to support the school, the PTA - chaired by Sandra Biscombe - has lined up a supper-dance at Portadown Golf Club, the format being a drinks reception, background music by a string quartet, dinner followed by post-meal entertainment in the form of the reflections and observations of PC old boy Niall Crozier and dancing to the sounds of the 1970s and '80s.
The all-in price of a ticket is £25 and the organisers stress that the emphasis will be on "fun and informality".
A spokesperson for the PTA said, "It's a chance for parents to meet fellow-parents and teachers in a social context for a change. I think it's fair to say that nobody will be talking shop on the night!
"While the PTA exists to raise money for the school, there's nothing to say that we can't enjoy ourselves while we're doing that.
"The event, which is open to all parents and teachers, is about having fun while raising much-needed money for the school's lecture theatre."
Tickets are available from the school, phone 028 3833 2439.
