Portadown Visual Arts Society (PVAS) starts its new season with an open night on Wednesday, September 9.

Professional guest artist Sam Fleming from Belfast will be giving a demonstration using oil paints and will also include a talk on the theory of colour mixing. Everyone is invited to the event (club members £2, guests £4) starting at 7pm.

PVAS is ideal for anyone interested in the visual arts - painting, drawing etc - whether they like to do-it-yourself or prefer to watch someone else having the fun.

It is based at Millennium Court Arts Centre in the old markets building, William Street, Portadown and meetings take place at 7pm on the first and third Wednesday evenings of each month.

Professional artists are invited along on a regular basis to give demonstrations or workshops – these events are evenings only, so why not join and enjoy the craic and light refreshments in an informal friendly atmosphere.

During the winter season the PVAS stage public exhibitions in Portadown where members may show and sell their paintings. Outdoor sketching and painting trips are a regular feature of the Club. The yearly membership fee is £25 and application forms are available by phoning Club Secretary Rosalind Hadden on 3833 2849 or from Roberta Hanlon, treasurer, e-mail: rob@hanlon.me.uk
