A Tandragee woman has been awarded a top industry accolade at the Pharmacy in Focus awards – the industry’s leading awards ceremony recognising the contributions of Northern Ireland’s pharmacy champions.

Sharon Bleakley, programme manager of BCPP (Building the Community Pharmacy Partnership) a programme which is part of the Community Development and Health Network (CDHN) which is based in Newry, scooped the ‘Chemi’ award in the ‘Service to Pharmacy’ category.

Sharon beat off competition from two other finalists across Northern Ireland to claim the award.

She has been instrumental in enhancing and developing stronger understanding and relationships between pharmacists and their local communities.

She was also core to the development of an evaluation system which is used to evidence the impact of BCPP projects.

Over 500 professionals gathered at the ninth annual Ulster Chemists’ Associations President’s Ball and Pharmacy in Focus awards at Belfast’s Ramada Plaza hotel, to hear who would walk away with a prestigious award.

Maureen Delaney, organiser of the event said, “Once again, the Pharmacy in Focus awards were another roaring success with not only a fantastic turnout, but entries were at such an exceptionally high standard right across the board, making it very difficult for our judges!

“ I’d like to thank everyone who has taken the time to enter this year’s awards, and congratulate Sharon on her win which is very much deserved.”

Adrienne Clugston, secretary of the Ulster Chemists’ Association said, “I’d like to congratulate all of the winners and finalists and everyone who took part in the awards. We hope that they will build on their success and inspire others along the way.”

A record number of entries were received this year from all over Northern Ireland with accolades being handed out across 12 categories.
