ALMOST 2,000 people took to the sun-drenched streets of Portadown on Sunday for the annual Commonwealth Day Parade.
The good weather which the organisers had hoped for materialised in abundance, and - considering that a year ago it all had to be abandoned due to driving rain - this was jolly good parading weather.
The uniformed organisation were joined by eight bands, and the town was lined by proud mums, dads, grannies and grandpas to see their little prides-and-joys march to and from the annual church services.
Members of Explorers, Rainbow Guides, Junior BBs, Cubs, Scouts, GFS, St John Ambulance Brigades, the lot - from town and country - left from Carleton and Hanover Streets to attend the three services.
The junior parade, with Winifred Robertson in charge, went to First Portadown (Edenderry) Presbyterian Church where the preacher was the Mark Proctor, youth and family worker.
The intermediate parade, under the charge of John Hunter, went to Thomas Street Methodist Church, and was addressed by youth pastor Adam Pierson.
And the seniors, with Paul Walker in charge, went to St Mark's Church of Ireland where the Rev Gary Galwey, a curate at the church, was the preacher.
Brian Morrison was in overall charge of the parade and was delighted with the turn-out and, of course, the weather.
"It couldn't have been a better day and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it," he said. "Our sincere thanks go to the PSNI for their co-operation is organising the traffic end of things, to the bands for turning out faithfully each year, to the churches for accommodating us, and to each of the organisations' members and officers for such a smart turn-out.
"It was one of the most successful parades in years, and it's great to see Portadown's uniformed organisation in such a healthy state."
The parades dispersed at Carleton Street and Hanover Street, and everything went without a hitch.
