THE newly formed Parent Teacher Association at Portadown College held a highly successful supper evening at Portadown Golf Club recently.
The evening was held to raise money for the refurbishment of the school's lecture theatre, one of a number of projects that the PTA are helping to fund.
After a drinks reception accompanied by a music recital from present pupils Peter Harris and Lisa McLoughlin, teachers and parents enjoyed a meal.
This was followed by entertainment in the form of an hilarious after-dinner speech delivered by guest speaker and former pupil Niall Crozier.
A disco, with music provided by another present pupil, Andrew Chambers gave the guests the opportunity to let their hair down on the dance floor.
The fun-filled evening raised a total of £1,600, which will enable the school to purchase an interactive whiteboard, a sound system and a digital projector for the lecture theatre, all of which will be transferred to the new school building when it is built.
Chairperson Sandra Biscomb thanked the sponsors and those who donated gifts.
She said, "Their generosity and willingness to give sponsorship to Portadown College was greatly appreciated. Many of those who were approached were past pupils or parents of pupils and did not think twice about giving.
"It was hugely encouraging to see that there is so much support within the Portadown community. All of this helped make the evening an enormous success and of course has assisted in providing some of the funds now being put to good use in the College's facilities. Further thanks are also due to those who attended and supported and of course all those that gave their time and effort to the organisation of the event."
