AN open meeting is being held in Corcrain to address the issue of anti-social behaviour in the area.
It has been organised by the PLACE Initiative, at the request of residents living in the Corcrain and Redmanville estates, and will be held on Tuesday, October 7 in Corcrain Community Centre.

The estates have been troubled by anti-social behaviour
since the summer, and the meeting will provide an opportunity for residents to express their views and discuss ways of tackling the problem.

Problems have included young people drinking, street lights being smashed, damage to cars and rowdy, disruptive behaviour.

Richard Mealey, a co-ordinator with PLACE said, "These incidents have been taking place since the summer and would appear to involve people from as young as 13 upwards.

"We had thought it would stop - or at least be less frequent - when the schools went back, as it has in other problem areas, but this hasn't happened. It is still going on."

Mr Mealey pointed out that the issue had been raised at the group's monthly inter-agency meetings, which are attended by representatives of Craigavon Borough Council, the PSNI, Roads Service and the Housing Executive.

He said, "The police say they have given out warning letters to some of the young people but there is still a perception by residents that not enough is being done.

"The meeting will give the community a chance to make their views known and see how we are going to tackle the problems and move forward."
Mr Mealey and his colleague, mediation worker, Gordon Blevins, will be at the meeting which starts at 7pm.

Everyone is welcome.
