A SPONSORED walk in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care will take place next month, along the River Bann tow-path.
The Portadown Promenade walk, which has been organised by the Craigavon Fundraising Group, was launched recently by Craigavon Mayor, Alderman Sidney Anderson, and Marie Curie Nursing Ambassador Martina Kennedy.
The Mayor was happy to support the e
vent after witnessing the first-class care given to his sister by the charity.
The walk will take place on Saturday, September 13, starting from Portadown Boat Club between 10.30am and 11.30am. Participants can choose from a three-mile or six-mile option, with the shorter route turning at Whitecoat Bridge, and the longer at Moneypenny’s Lock.
There is a minimum sponsorship of £10 per family. To obtain a fundraising pack contact Margaret Coleman on 3834 3411 or regional office on 9088 2060.
Marie Curie Cancer Care is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year and during this time the charity has provided nursing care for 375,000 patients and their families.
Martina Kennedy has been a Marie Curie nurse for six years and has a BSc degree in Cancer and Palliative Care. She is extremely gratified to be able to provide expert care to terminally ill people in their own homes. She said, “Our work simply wouldn’t be possible without the great effort made by our volunteers and those who support events like this. My thanks go to Craigavon Fundraising Group for organising this walk. Please help our charity to provide care for more patients.”
The Craigavon group has been operating since February 2006 and is always on the lookout for new members. It meets on the first Wednesday of each month at Portadown Rugby Club. Anyone interested in becoming involved should phone one of the above numbers. The last major event, a cycle in June, raised over £9,000.
