Upper Bann MLA Sydney Anderson has congratulated the Orange and Black Institutions following the recent demonstrations over the Twelfth period.
The County Armagh lodges descended on Bessbrook with the annual Black Demonstration and Sham Fight taking place at Scarva.
“I would praise the Bann Valley District Officers and everyone who was involved in the preparations of the Twelfth demonstration which was held at Lenaderg on Monday past. The demonstration was very well attended with many bands and brethren on parade along with great numbers of spectators lending their support to the whole event.
“I would also like to praise the Bessbrook District Officers for the successful way in which they arranged the preparations for the flagship Twelfth demonstration at Bessbrook. I myself was on parade with fellow Orangebrethren on Monday in the village and I thoroughly enjoyed the occasion. There was a real family friendly atmosphere and everyone who was on parade or who was watching had a great day. Both of these demonstrations were a great celebration of heritage and culture and the high attendance at both clearly highlights the strong public support which continues to exist for the Orange Order.”
Mr Anderson described the Sham Fight at Scarva as a “real success”.
He added, “There was a real buzz about the village with good weather adding to the occasion. The streets were yet again lined with people and it was great to see so many bands coming along to parade with members of the Royal Black Institution. I am glad that I have been able to support the annual demonstration at Scarva over many years and I am fully committed along with my colleagues to ensuring that the event continues to prosper and thrive in the years ahead.”
