Author Tony Macauley was the guest speaker at the annual area group meeting of Moyallen Area Women’s Institute.

A total of 97 members from eight institutes - Drumcree, Laurelvale, Levaghery, Loughgall, Tandragee, Tartaraghan, Vinecash and Whitehall and District - attended the event at Mullavilly Parish Centre.

Mr Macaulay, author of Paperboy, Breadboy and All Growed Up, entertained the audience by reading an extract from All Growed Up and afterwards took the time to chat to members and sign copies of his books.

The meeting was opened by Mrs Johanna Robinson, area chairman, and Mrs Kathleen Verner, area executive member, gave the federation report followed by sub-committee reports from Mrs Janet Kells, home and garden, and Mrs Joyce Stewart, magazine and leisure.

Comprehensive reports were read by the secretaries from Drumcree, Laurelvale, Levaghery and Loughgall Institutes.

Mrs Verner also presented the craft ribbons and area awards:

Ballot prizes donated by Tandragee, Tartaraghan, Vinecash and Whitehall and District Institutes were distributed after which supper was provided by Loughgall Institute when members had the opportunity to visit the displays of competition entries and the large displays of crafts.

The Tartaraghan members were responsible for the entertainment and they did not disappoint with a hilarious sketch entitled Blue Socks.

Mrs Georgina Stewart, Laurelvale WI, gave the general vote of thanks to all those who had contributed to the evening.

Mrs Robinson thanked all the members for their reports and for their continued hard work and dedication and all who contributed to making the evening a success, with a special mention for Hazel Semple, area secretary.
