An 11-year-old boy was attacked at Brownstown play park on Tuesday morning - with his parents claiming it was simply because he was wearing a Manchester United shirt.

Joel McClatchey was left with severe bruising around one eye, with claims that Polish youths were involved in the incident, at around 11am.

I was wondering if the local newspaper can help me find the five Polish guys that viciously attacked my 11-year-old son

Following the attack, his mother Chantelle McClatchey contacted the Portadown Times with hopes of tracking down her son’s attackers.

She said: “I was wondering if the local newspaper can help me find the five Polish guys that viciously attacked my 11-year-old son, when he was playing football and because he was wearing a Manchester United top, in Brownstown play park.”

The family told the Times that Joel was left with a black eye and was badly shaken.

Contacts have been made with the police, who are now investigating.

They have appealed for witnesses to contact them - the non-emergency number to ring is 101.
