Castledawson golfer Chris Selfridge to turn professional
The two time North of Ireland champion, former east of Ireland and Amateur Close winner, has decided to take the paid ranks once he has graduated from Toledo University in Ohio next month.
He will get up to seven invitations in the European Challenge Tour 2015. Chris stated that he was excited at the challenge ahead and had been delighted to represent Ireland in the amateur game for the past eight years. He went on to say “ that he was forever grateful to the golfing union of Ireland for all their help and support”.

In March, he secured victory in the prestigious Talis Park Challenge and in recent weeks, shot a 12 under par to finish 3rd in the Azalea Invitational held in Charlestown, USA. His latest outing, at the NYX Hoosier Invitational in Indiana, saw him finish 5th, and also record the lowest score of the competition with a superb 66. He had three rounds of 72, 66 and 74 for 212, which was just five shots behind the winner. All this helped Chris move up to 98th in the world amateur rankings, and no less than into 6th place in Ireland.
While his loss to the amateur game is a great one, the prospect of seeing the Castledawson golfer compete with professionals, is exciting to say the least. His fellow members and friends at Moyola Park, the community in general, and all involved in the game, wish Chris Selfridge every success in his chosen career!
