Fifty-one school mates who attended Portadown College between 1989 and 1993 recently got together for a long awaited catch-up – and raised £620 for the Encephalitis Society at the same time.
The reunion took place in Portadown Rugby Club where the group enjoyed a bite to eat, reminisced about the past, checked out old photos on display and donated the proceeds raised from a raffle to the Encephalitis Society – a charity very close to their hearts as one member of the year group is recovering from this serious illness.
Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain, and can be triggered by the cold sore virus or even the common cold. There are tens of thousands of cases diagnosed across the globe, with up to 6,000 new cases in England alone each year.
The group would like to thank the local businesses who generously donated the raffle prizes as well as DJs Casey Elizabeth Wright and Clark McIlwaine and photographer Zoe Harrison.
“We all had a fantastic night and were delighted to have raised such a substantial amount of money for a very worthy charity,” said Kathryn Bloomer.
“Hopefully we can all meet up again before another 20 years has passed!”
