Cookstown man convicted of benefit fraud

A Cookstown man was convicted at Dungannon Magistrates’ Court yesterday for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

Steven Nixon (42) of Molesworth Street, Cookstown claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £18,047 while failing to declare employment.

He was given a four month prison sentence suspended for three years and ordered to pay court costs of £55.

He will also have to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
