Car owner fined for uninsured driver

While police were investigating a report of a suspected drink driver they found that a woman driving a car was not insured.

The owner of the vehicle was in the passenger seat and last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court David Ashley White (34), Parknasilla Way, Aghagallon, was fined £200 for the offence which happened on July 10 this year.

He was also given six points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that at around 8pm police went to Lisnagade Mews, Derrytrasna, after a report of a suspected drink driver. They saw a car in the driveway of the address and a female was in the driver’s seat and there were three other males in the vehicle.

Checks revealed that the vehicle was registered to White. When cautioned for permitting he said: “It’s my own car and she told me she was legal to drive.”

Mr Joe McDonald, representing the defendant, said White had been out with friends and had a few drinks.

He explained that they could not get a taxi and one of his friends said she would drive and he had assumed she was insured.
