A woman who grabbed another woman by the hair over a row about their children was bound over last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court.

Sharon McDonald (48), Larchwood Avenue, Banbridge, admitted common assault on March 4 this year.

The court heard that around 7pm the injured party was shopping at a store in Banbridge when she saw the defendant. There was some history between the two parties.

When they came face to face McDonald said to the injured party; “Don’t you ever report my daughter to the school again.”

She then grabbed the victim by the hair and pulled her down. They were escorted from the store and there was a verbal altercation between them which was captured on CCTV.

A solicitor handed a letter from St Mary’s Primary School into the court.

He said McDonald would apologise for her behaviour which was ‘unbecoming’ for a lady who was a respected member of her local community.

Referring to the letter District Judge Eamonn King said this was typical behaviour from girls of this age and quite petty. He added that parents should not get involved in children’s issues because they can sort it out in a few minutes.

The judge bound McDonald over in the sum of £100 for one year to be of good conduct.
