Laura McGregor, Oakwood Place, Portadown, admitted common assault on a female on June 13 this year.

Her plea was made at an earlier sitting of Craigavon Magistrates Court and sentencing adjourned until last Wednesday so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained.

The court heard that at 1.45am the injured party was pushed to the ground in Thomas Street, Portadown, by the defendant and then kicked a number of times.

McGregor, who was under the influence of alcohol, admitted assaulting the victim and appeared to show remorse for her actions.

A barrister representing the defendant said she was heavily intoxicated and she had been assaulted.

He explained that she saw the injured party and thought she was the person who had assaulted her in the kebab shop. She had a clear record and this was out of character for her.

The barrister added that probation said they can work with her and she had made the statement that if she consumed alcohol she cannot handle it.

District Judge, Mrs Bernie Kelly, told McGregor she was very lucky on this occasion her actions in other circumstances could have led to death.

The judge said she would deal with the matter by way of a community based disposal and imposed 180 hours community service.
