A young Portadown man has admitted stealing cash from Asda while he was employed at the supermarket.

Ryan Swaffield (19), Cloncarrish Road, Portadown, appeared last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

The first charge against him alleges that between April 2, 2015, and April 13, 2015, he stole cash to the value of £280 belonging to Asda.

He is also charged that between March 30, 2015, and April 13, 2015, he abused his position at Asda by failing to charge customers for ‘Bags For Life’ valued at £3.80 in total with the intention to make a gain for himself.

District Judge, Mr Desmond Perry, said that given the nature of the charge and that it was a breach of trust case the custody threshold was automatically passed.

He indicated that a pre-sentence report would be needed and adjourned the case until November 27 so that a report could be obtained.
