There was a double birthday celebration at Cafe Eden on the Carrickblacker Road on Tuesday.

The cafe was celebrating exactly seven years in business when the Portadown Times telephoned with some good news.

Cafe Eden, which opened its doors back in September 2008, has been voted Cafe of the Year by readers of the Portadown Times.

The cafe beat off competition from the likes of Chimes in Church Street, which finished in second place.

Cafe Casa, which is based in Main Street, Richhill was placed third.

Chrissie Uprichard, a waitress who has been working in Cafe Eden for the last seven years, was delighted she heard the news.

“We’re absolutely chuffed,” she said, as the staff shouted in delight. “There are 10 of us working here altogether and we like to feel that the customers love the atmosphere in the place and of course love the food. “
