A coffee morning is being held in Portadown Town Hall on Tuesday to help finance a new book about the UDR.
DUP MLAs Stephen Moutray and Sydney Anderson recently attended the launch of the new UDR Legacy Project at Parliament Buildings.
Both MLAs are fully supportive of the project which aims to document in a book format the service and sacrifice of the UDR throughout the troubles in Northern Ireland.
Stephen Moutray MLA said, “I was delighted to attend along with my colleague Sydney Anderson MLA an event which was humbling and informative. “I am always touched by the sacrifice and commitment demonstrated by the UDR over what was some of the darkest days in the history of our country. The UDR CGC are commissioning a book that will record the service and sacrifice of these brave men and women when they wore their uniforms and when they were out uniforms.
“These are stories that we must never forget and I along with Sydney Anderson MLA will be hosting a coffee morning in conjunction with some of the local UDR CGC members on 7th July, in Portadown Town Hall, 10:30am-12:30pm to help finance this important book.”
“I will endeavour in my role as a local elected representative to always ensure that we never forget the sacrifice and service of such brave individuals.”
