Dementia Care Edenderry Day Centre is one of five nominees from the Southern Health for the Northern Ireland Social Work Awards 2015.

Organised by the Northern Ireland Social Care Council and Health and Social Care Board, the awards which will take place on March 5 aim to promote and celebrate excellence in social work.

Executive director of social work for the trust, Paul Morgan said. “In the southern area we currently have 600 social work staff working across programmes of care with individuals, families and communities to help improve their lives. This includes protecting vulnerable people from harm or abuse, supporting people to live independently and acting as advocates and directing people to services that they may need.

“In the Southern Trust we are committed to promoting excellence in social work practice and the fact that we have five finalists in these prestigious awards really reflects the calibre of our social care workforce.

“We are delighted that the profession is being given such public recognition for their contribution to improving the wellbeing of our local population.”
