Get ready for charity lakes race and fun run

Runners are being urged to get their shoes at the ready and sign up for the annual Craigavon Lakes 10km race and fun run on Wednesday, June 1.

Organised by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, the route starts and finishes at Craigavon Watersports Centre and will take in the pathways around Craigavon Lakes.

For those who don’t fancy 10km, there will also be a 5km fun run and a 1km family challenge.

Proceeds will go to British Heart Foundation Northern Ireland Mending Broken Hearts Appeal and sponsorship forms are available on request.

A specially carved wooden chair has been unveiled at the Secret Garden, Edenvilla Park in memory of former council town clerk/chief executive, the late Eric McKinley to mark his committed work with The Northern Ireland Amenity Council. The family fun run will kick off proceedings at 6.50pm with the 1km Family Challenge, followed by the 5km and 10km from 7pm.

The closing date for applications is Monday, May 30. Applications can be obtained from council leisure centres, sports development on 028 3831 1692 or register online at www.athleticsni.org.

There will be no registrations on the night. The check-in desks will open at 5.30pm and close at 6.45pm sharp.
