Service to mark sacrifice on the Somme

A very special church service will be held on Sunday, 22 May, at 3.15pm, in St Patrick's Church of Ireland Cathedral, Armagh, under the auspices of County Armagh Grand Orange Lodge, to mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

All brethren, sisters and juniors have been invited to attend and are to assemble at Armagh Orange Hall on The Mall at 2.30pm, moving off at 2.45pm, and being led by Hamiltonsbawn Silver Band and Tullyvallen Silver Band.

The service will be conducted by the Dean of Armagh, Very Rev Gregory Dunstan, and the preacher will be Rev Dr Alan McCann, County Grand Chaplain.

During the service there will be an Act of Remembrance and wreath-laying in memory of all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice at the Somme 100 years ago in 1916.

Whilst the actual anniversary date is 1 July, this Sunday has been chosen by the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland so as not to clash with other anniversary services at that time.

All are encouraged to attend this special service.
