Three penalty points were imposed on a 36-year-old man last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for having a child under the age of 12 in his vehicle without a restraint.
Jonathan Stewart Dickson, whose address was given to the court as Colban Crescent, Lurgan, was also fined £200 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.
For failing to produce his licence to police he was fined a further £75.
The court heard he was detected carrying the child without a restraint on the Old Portadown Road, Lurgan, on August 19 last year.
He failed to produce his licence.
Mr Paddy Moriarty, representing the defendant, said his client accepted the child should have been properly restrained.
There were four people in the vehicle including the child’s mother.
District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said he regarded this as a serious matter because the child’s safety was at risk.
