A Portadown-based manufacturer of diesel generating equipment has opened an office in Dubai and is expecting to increase sales there by more than 50 per cent this year.

AJ Power, which employ around 90 people at their Charlestown Industrial Estate plant, set up the sales and technical support office to build on a significant rise in business during 2014.

The base in Dubai will enable AJ Power to pinpoint and respond quickly to new business opportunities and to service existing clients faster in the Middle East.

Ashley Pigott, AJ Power managing director, said, “Our business across the Middle East and particularly in the United Arab Emirates is developing rapidly. Opening a sales and technical support office there makes sound business sense and will give us a solid platform for even faster growth.

“The office is facilitating our existing network of distributors and will seek to expand sales in other markets, not previously served by the company.

“Invest NI’s guidance on the legal requirements of setting up in Dubai and supporting the development of new contacts has been immensely important and makes what can be a complicated process a great deal easier.”

He added “The success of our generators in the region with a broad range of commercial and industrial clients has encouraged us to expand our product portfolio for customers to include our largest high voltage machines.

“The Middle East is fast becoming among our most successful global markets. These markets appreciate the quality and value of our diesel generators.”

Invest NI provided advice and practical support to assist the company in setting up the office. Dr Vicky Kell, Invest NI trade director, said, “Our teams in the Gulf States have extensive knowledge and experience of doing business throughout the Middle East and can help companies in developing business and also on the legal and other requirements involved in setting up a base in Dubai.”

AJ Power design, assemble and test diesel-fuelled, electric-power generating sets which are used in hospitals, banks, data centres, supermarkets and hotels, as well as for industrial, construction, exploration, telecommunications and homes.

AJ Power, established in 2002, export to 80 countries.
