Let husband drive without insurance

A 36-year-old woman who let her husband drive her car without insurance was warned if she was back in court again for motoring offences she would lose her car.

Graciete Oliveira Do Rosario Melicio, Wentworth Green, Portadown, was fined £200 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for permitting no insurance.

She was also given six points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

Antonio Augusto Melicio (46), Wentworth Green, Portadown, was fined £300 and banned for six months for driving without insurance.

He was also fined £150 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy for not having a driving licence.

The court heard that at on June 22 this year at Wentworth Green Antonio Melicio was detected driving without insurance and it transpired that his licence was not valid.

The vehicle belonged to his wife who admitted she had given him permission to drive on this occasion.

A barrister representing the defendants said she had been out of the country at the time but implicit consent was there.

District Judge, Mrs Bernie Kelly, considered the forfeiture of the car because she feared Antonio Melicio might get back into it again.

But she told Graciete Melicio she would let her keep the car on this occasion but warned her if she was back in court again for any motoring matters she would lose her car.
