DUP comments fooling no-one
FROM Gilford Unionist
I write to you following your article in last week’s Times entitled ‘UUP leader Nesbitt has his eyes on Upper Bann’.
I noted with particular interest the comments within this article from a ‘DUP source’ who clearly wished to expound his views from a position of anonymity – which of course flies in the face of so-called ‘Democratic’ Unionism’.
The source, a veritable DUP ‘deep throat,’ quotes figures from an election in which his political masters suffered a 4.3 per cent fall off in their vote from the previous Assembly Elections and falsely claims that a vote for the Ulster Unionists at the next Westminster election would land the Upper Bann electorate with a Sinn Fein MP.
The results of the previous Westminster Election prove otherwise - DUP 14,000, UUP 10,639 and SF 10,237. Electoral mathematics is clearly not this source’s strongest attribute.
Upper Bann has always been, and indeed remains an unashamedly unionist constituency and if the best argument which Upper Bann DUP can place before the electorate is vote for us or you get a Sinn Fein MP it truly beggars belief.
