To the ‘upset mother’ from last week, I am a mother myself and I completely understand how frustrating and annoyed this has made you that some mindless, pathetic ‘lady’ called your son a spoilt brat. It angered me when I read your letter, especially because of the fact that your son has Down’s Syndrome and the last thing you want to hear is an inconsiderate stranger bad mouthing your son! This person obviously has no children and does not understand, and if she does then she should be ashamed of herself. Any child is a blessing and you are right in saying that it is not your son that needs to change...it is indeed this ‘woman’ that needs to change! Her attitude towards you that day sounded appalling and uncalled for. Just you forget about her!! I wish you and your special little boy a very enjoyable and Merry Christmas! N Walker

Wow, the three or four big brave, masked men who attacked an 11- year-old boy outside the park must feel really proud of themselves. I hope that wee lad had a very Happy Christmas in spite of them. GSD

I agree with our Mayor, the protestors in Portadown were a disgrace. No matter the validity or otherwise of the protest, the destruction and violent behaviour in recent days is not justified. To attack property at a nursing home is beyond belief by people claiming to be Protestant. I wonder how many attend a church? Not one I’m sure. GSD

On the front page of last week’s paper you state that a protestor was lying injured after being struck by a car while loyalists threw fireworks and bottles at the police. This statement is totally untrue, this is a highly sensitive subject and would help by the reporters getting their facts right. The protestor was carried on the bonnet of a jeep who drove through a crowd of peaceful protestors. The police stood at the side of the Northway and tended to the young man after he was thrown from the jeep’s bonnet after being carried for over 200 meters. The driver of the jeep then sped of down the Northway, the only person breaking the law was the driver of the jeep as everyone has the right to peaceful protest. Please correct these facts in your paper.

What sort of nutters are there living in this area when they can, 1. steal an 8ft inflatable Santa outside a home on the Farlough Road and then hang it on a motorway bridge. 2, refer to a Down’s Syndrome child as a “spoilt brat” for brushing a teddy bear against their leg. 3. wheelie bins from a private nursing home and then burning them over the flag issue at Belfast City Hall. No wonder the world has gone mad. You didn’t expect anything else in this crazy part of the world, did you?

To the lady who took exception to another for calling a little boy a ‘wee brat’ for hitting her with his teddy bear.

I would hazard a guess that she really did not realise he was in a special wheelchair. There are many buggies of different shapes and sizes these days and it’s possible she mistook it for one of them and your child for one of the badly behaved toddlers we all sadly encounter out and about.

I very much doubt that she would have made the comment had she realised, so perhaps better to just put it down to experience, be the bigger person and demonstrate your own spirit of forgiveness?
