We shouldn’t believe all we read and hear about Todd Bentley. The Portadown Times should be allowed to go and see him for themselves. Dr Cassidy is wrong in wanting to see him banned.
As a regular in Creative Destruction, I would be sad to see it go, I honestly don’t know what I would do after school and in the evenings, most people my age would rather go get drunk on the street. Michael cannot raise his prices over the RRP, he would lose too many customers. It would be a disgrace to Portadown to see another business fail, this town’s crime rates will probably rise in the next few years if nothing is done. Concerned 17-year- old wargamer
With all the euphoria with the Olympics on at present, I was so pleased to see kids out on the rowing boats the other day on the River Bann when coming back from my cycle. However, is it policy for novices of the sport at such a young age for them not to have life jackets? Not just in one boat either. Several. One had nine people in it at once including the cox. There is a guy in a small dinghy sized boat nearby, but, would you feel that your youngster was safe in that situation? Gareth Donald
THE ‘Times’ asked Portadown Boat Club for a response:
“We strictly adhere to full Rowing Ireland safety guidelines at all times, especially when coaching novices and juniors.
Lifejackets are not considered part of the safety procedure due to the restrictive nature of the clothing in that environment.
The boats have various in-built safety precautions and we maintain a constant presence of qualified club members on the water.”
It was great to read that the council are making a substantial investment in angling in the area but let’s hope the fish get a chance to stay in the river and lakes as there is a massive problem in this area with people illegally taking fish for the pot and the licenced commercial fishermen on Lough Neagh legally netting tons of coarse fish every week! Some of these fish would have made their way into the Upper Bann and offered great sport to fishermen. As an angler who has fished the Bann for 30 years I cannot agree with Mr Fraser that ‘fishing on the Bann right now is superb’ as myself and many other local anglers have seen a massive decline in fish stocks in the Bann in recent years. DCAL will need to up their game and make sure they supply adequate bailiff cover for the area otherwise all the hard work will be in vain. CATCH AND RELEASE ANGLER.

The new lifts in Craigavon Area Hospital are terrible - far too slow.
In an article in a Sunday newspaper last weekend, former Portadown Times journalist, Ivan Little said he counted the number of discarded cigarettes on the pavement outside Belfast’s City Hospital and stopped when he reached 154. Maybe Ivan should do a similar job at Craigavon Area Hospital’s front entrance and car parks. He would probably lose count when he reaches 10,000. I know that there are designated smoking shelters but it would be good if it was tidied up now and again along with the other places people go for a ‘fag’. Next week is Xpression week when hundreds of adults and young people wearing black T-shirts will be ‘armed’ with brushes, shovels and spades, doing all sorts of jobs for people in Portadown and surrounding areas. On top of that, they will be organising kids’ Bible clubs, litter ‘picks’, football skills training and barbecues. This inter-denominational group shares the love of God and the Christian faith in their own unique manner. Let’s all get behind the Rev Malcolm Kingston, along with the rest of the adults, leaders and young people during the week which is always eagerly looked forward to by the young and young at heart.
