Local groups scoop £31,500 in funding

‘Cans’ Metal Box Pensioners’ Association is one of four groups in the Craigavon area awarded a total of £31,500 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All programme.

The association is made up of older people, friends and associates who previously worked at the Metal Box factory in Portadown

A grant of £1,500 was awarded for the Making a Difference project which will provide day trips across Northern Ireland and offer a series of awareness raising sessions such as safety in the home.

Cast Ministries, which provides training and personal development to young people also received £10,000. The grant will be used to buy IT and multi-media presentation equipment which will allow the group to create engaging presentations for young people.

The Birches Cosy Club was awarded £10,000 for the Raising into the 21st IT project. The club provides activities and events for older people and the project will deliver a series of trips, training and activities, including music and IT.

The Royal Ulster Constabulary GC Association (Co Armagh), which is based in Craigavon, also received £10,000. The group supports local people and their families who served in the RUC. The grant will be used to organise a trip to London to join in remembrance activities in November 2014.
