£93,000 windfall for two youth groups

Two Portadown youth projects have been awarded a total of £93,000 by BBC Children in Need.

Goal Line Youth Trust has been awarded £48,000 to deliver a programme of art, music, games and other workshops with disabled young people.

The activities aim to help develop the young people’s social skills, support communication, increase self–confidence and encourage peer interaction.

Scotch Street Youth Club has been awarded £45,000 to provide a youth club and a kids’ club with a programme of fun activities for children and young people.

Attending the youth club helps to improve the young people’s confidence, create opportunities and gives support in a community environment.

Speaking of the new funding, Gordon Woolsey at Scotch Street Youth Club said, “It’s really fantastic news to hear that we’ve been awarded funding from BBC Children in Need. Over the coming months we’ll be able to make a difference to the lives of countless young people right here in Portadown.”

BBC Children in Need now funds 15 projects in County Armagh with over £748,725 benefitting young lives in the county.

Paddy Sloan, national head of Northern Ireland for BBC Children in Need, said, “It’s great to be associated with projects such as these in Portadown which allow children and young people to develop their talents while having a good time with their friends.

“Our grants fund work that provides critical support to those involved, at a time and in a place where they need it most. A big thank you to everyone who has fundraised or donated to make this possible.”
