Standing in the dock of Craigavon Magistrates Court, 55-year-old Edmundas Kavaliauskas confirmed that he understood the two charges against him.

Kavaliauskas, with an address at Mill Street in Gilford, faces one count of human trafficking alleging that on 27 September last year, he “arranged or facilitated the travel of another person with a view” that he would be exploited and making a threat to kill the same man “intensify that he would fear it would be carried out” on the same date.

The Lithuanian defendant was connected to the offence by a police officer who objected to Kavaliauskas being granted bail as police had concerns that if released, the defendant would not turn up for trial.

Refusing to release Kavaliauskas on the grounds that he was likely to abscond, Deputy District Judge Paul Conway remanded him into custody and ordered him to appear again on 24 June via videolink.
