A PSNI spokesperson said: “Local police are working with the PCSP and council authorities to try and reduce such incidents of anti-social behaviour.”

On the PSNI Craigavon’s Facebook page, they said: “The Olympics don’t start until 5th August but it would appear that we have some budding shot putters in Portadown using the Bann as their practice area!

“So to the Hoys Meadow Hoofers and the Shillington Slingers our message is very simple - if we find you there’ll be no Going for Gold, just a trip to Lurgan Custody and a criminal record instead of an Olympic one!

“Please know where your young athletes are and help us to keep them safe!!”
