Portadown Asda colleague Hamilton Brown is set to take on the challenge of a lifetime by becoming a Heart Runner in the London Marathon - helping to raise vital funds for the British Heart Foundation.

The people service manager will take on the 26.2 mile course on Sunday, April 13 as one of four Asda runners from across the UK, and is hoping to personally raise over £2,000 for the charity which tackles heart and circulatory disease – the UK’s biggest killer.

Hamilton said, “It’s always been a dream to run the London Marathon, so when Asda launched a competition for colleagues to win a space I jumped at the chance to enter – and was delighted to be chosen!

“I’m also honoured to be running for such a worthwhile cause as the British Heart Foundation. Asda has been supporting the charity during its ‘Ramp up the Red’ campaign in February and has now committed to having CPR trained colleagues and a public access defibrillator in every store by the end of 2014 – so to add my personal support to this cause feels great.”

To raise money and awareness, Hamilton and his fellow colleagues from Asda held a six-hour treadmill and cycle challenge on Valentine’s Day in the Asda Portadown store.

Simon Arlow, general store manager at Asda Portadown said: ‘We are extremely proud of Hamilton’s commitment to this challenge and the work he has put into fundraising for this important charity. Our customers have been hugely supportive of his efforts and I know they will join me in wishing him the best of luck for the race.”
