Two Tandragee councillors say the adoption of the SELB’s controversial bilateral school model would be bad news for the town.
Gareth Wilson and Terry McWilliams said, “The SELB seem intent on trying to steamroller through proposals around Option A of the Area Plan that will effectively mean the end of the Dickson Plan of education that has worked very successfully in the Tandragee area for over 40 years.
“Option A would involve Tandragee Junior High school amalgamating with Clounagh and Killicomain Schools to form a new Junior College of 1,200+ pupils on three sites.
“Under the proposal Tandragee would no longer have a head teacher, board of governors nor financial independence. Very importantly, children in the Tandragee area would be denied the opportunity to go to a grammar school as at present, with the dissolution of Portadown College and the formation of a new senior comprehensive school encompassing the current Craigavon Senior High School and Portadown College.”
