While taking friends home from a bar a Portadown man was stopped by police and arrested for driving with excess alcohol.
Jonathon Kerr (24), Glanroy Avenue, was fined £150 and banned for 12 months last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for the offence on March 23 this year.
On completion of a course for drink driving his ban would be reduced to nine months.
The court heard he was stopped on the Armagh Road, Portadown, and police noticed the smell of intoxicating liquor on his breath. An evidential test gave a reading of 82.
A solicitor for Kerr said had been working and he got a text from a friend who was at a local bar. He added that when the defendant got there his friend persuaded him to have a couple of drinks.
The solicitor explained that Kerr proceeded to take his friends home and was stopped after only driving a short distance.
District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said it was a quite high reading but he would take into account the defendant’s limit record and keep the ban to 12 months.
