Drove on after hitting mirror

After clipping the wing mirror of a parked car a 25-year-old woman drove on and did not report the accident.

Mairead McGuigan, Sugar Island Road, Bleary, admitted, through her solicitor, a series of motoring offences last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

These were driving without due care and attention, failing to stop, failing to remain and failing to report an accident on January 21 this year. The court heard that at approximately 12.10pm a car was travelling along West Street in Portadown. Its wing mirror struck the wing mirror of a parked car.

The defendant told police she had left the car at Hanover Motors where it was getting serviced. It was confirmed she had left the car in at 12.50pm on the day of the incident and the vehicle had not left the yard.

McGuigan admitted she may have clipped the wing mirror of the other car. The amount of the damage came to £250.

Deputy District Judge Gerry Trainor adjourned sentencing until June 29 so that the defendant would attend court with compensation of £250 or proof that the damage had been paid for.
