There is good news on the retail front in Portadown – a new shop has opened.

‘Hanger13’ at Mandeville Street is a true family affair, with Katie Henderson following in the footsteps of her mother Kate, the popular proprietor of ‘Kabra’ at High Street.

They’re both into women’s fashions, complementing one another rather than being in competition. And when you ask Katie whether she’s catering for the younger woman or the more mature lady, she answers, “There’s no such thing as old fashion these days – all women like to be up-to-date.” A shrewd businesswoman.

She invited friends and prospective customers last Friday night to view for themselves and enjoy a good view of the merchandise. It was quite success and points to a promising future to an ambitious young woman who looks set for a successful time in the fashion trade - just like mum.

Local people will know Katie as the attractive young server at the Portadown Golf Club bar and she aims to continue that enjoyable pastime part-time. Opening ‘Hanger 13’ is the fulfilment of a dream, as she has studied art and design at Armagh College, as well as theatre, media and make-up at Belfast Metropolitan. Obviously a young woman with a clear vision of the future.

Katie and mum (35 years in the trade) are soul mates when it comes to fashion – they have been to London and Paris together recently to view the top fashion there, and the attractive lay-out of the premises is ideal for showing them off.

“I’m delighted to be in business, especially in Portadown,” she insisted. “There’s life in the old town yet. I hope that other entrepreneurs put their faith in the town.”
