'˜Fed up with noise from flat'

Claiming that he was fed up with noise coming from his neighbour's flat a 46-year-old man, when he was drunk, kicked in a door panel.

Robert Edward Joseph Taylor, whose address was given as Selshion Parade, Portadown, admitted criminal damage to a door on March 18 this year.

He was given a conditional discharge for two years last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court and ordered to pay £223.80 compensation for the damage he caused.

The court heard that at 12.15am police were called to a disturbance at Selshion Parade in Portadown where Taylor was banging on a neighbour’s door and shouting abuse.

The defendant had left but ten minutes later he returned.

He began shouting and kicking at the door and shouted ‘get out you English b—d’.

Police spoke to him and Taylor said he was fed up with the noise and wanted the injured party out.

The occupant said that a wooden door panel had been kicked in and when he came out Taylor appeared to be drunk.

The cost of the repairs was £223.80.

When interviewed by police the defendant said there was loud noise but another neighbour spoken to by police had not heard any noise.

District Judge, Mrs Bernie Kelly, said that it was interesting that Taylor had also said ‘up the UVF’ in the custody suite.

From the dock Taylor said he had nothing against the English and that it was the alcohol.

A solicitor representing the defendant said there had been some sort of incident in the neighbour’s home.

He added that Taylor had gone out drinking and this had been playing on his mind.

The defendant had a long standing problem with alcohol.
