Twelve new jobs will be created when fashion retailer Peacocks opens its new Portadown store next Thursday, June 19.
The Wales-based business will open in the former Ethel Austin premises at High Street Mall, bringing a mixture of full-time and part-time roles.
The opening marks a return to Portadown for the fashion chain, which formerly traded from Magowan Buildings, before going into administration in February 2012.
A spokesperson for Peacocks said, “Peacocks is a family value retailer and our customers love to shop on local high streets. Peacocks has chosen a familiar, friendly and local location for people in Portadown.
“As a business we are committed to supporting local communities and developing high streets. Peacocks stands for quality and value for the whole family.
The business is dedicated to bringing customers exceptional value for money on the high street. The range gives customers the best of basics, starting at just £3, to the latest fashions for women, men and kids.”
She added, “The brand new store is bright and fresh, with a buzzing atmosphere and gorgeous collections will be merchandised to show off the brand new summer range.”
Tracey Jackson, manager of High Street Mall, said she was very pleased to welcome Peacocks back into the town centre and especially High Street Mall. “Peacocks will bring another facet to the mall’s retail mix and complement the existing tenants with its eye for quality,” she said.
Peacocks was founded 130 years ago by Albert Peacock, a penny bazaar selling anything and everything. The founding principle of value helped Peacocks develop a successful business that continued to grow throughout the twentieth century.
Bought by the Edinburgh Woollen Mill group in 2012, the head office is located in Cardiff, South Wales.
Peacocks have 450 stores across the UK, with 50 further new stores opening this year. Peacocks also has a number of stores internationally, in Malta, Greece, Cyprus, Gibraltar and Malaysia.
