Lauren approves ofCitizen Service

A Lurgan teenager has urged local teens to sign up for an exciting summer programme which she says has enriched her life.

Lauren Armstrong (16) took part in the National Citizen Service (NCS) Summer programme and loved it.

Lauren said; “There’s lots of activities and even if you’re not comfortable taking part in them, everyone bonds together and encourages each other – you’ll be surprised at what you can achieve. I gained many skills and learnt not to be afraid to try new things and to give everything a chance.

“For my social action project we held a fundraiser for a local mental health charity and also raised awareness of mental health in our community, which we found really rewarding.”

The programme is to start this Friday June 24 and runs throughout July. The four week, part-residential programme will include a week’s stay at Greenhill YMCA in Newcastle, complete with activities like rock-climbing and archery, followed by a week staying away from home at Crawfordsburn Scout Centre.
