Loretta Creaney personifies the modern-day ‘multi-tasking’ adage in her role as administrative officer with the town promotion and development company Portadown 2000, based at the Millennium Court in William Street.
Loretta joined the company six years ago this week. Her initial role was in town centre management, working on promoting town centre businesses and increased footfall. This embraced retail tourism, Christmas and other seasonal campaigns and initiatives.
In 2010, recognising her versatility, Portadown 2000 increased her brief. This was expanded to include Tourist Information responsibilities, accounting and clerical duties, liaison with the company’s shop unit tenants, and various Arts Centre duties.
Loretta frequently undergoes training to maintain skills and knowledge in this role, organized by Craigavon Borough Council or for example, World Host Hospitality Customer Service Leisure Travel and Tourism. She also operates the company’s Ticketmaster function.
In the Ticketmaster role, she “survived” the recent race for tickets to the Garth Brooks series of concerts in Croke Park, dealing with the overnight hordes whose queue stretched well into the town centre. And last week, the tickets for the Michael Buble shows sold out in minutes.
Said Loretta, “I really enjoy the job, especially meeting people, helping them, and derive enormous job satisfaction from answering their queries, booking accommodation, directing them to desired locations - always conscious that I’m promoting the town.
“I especially like to see the joy on their faces when they get their tickets for major shows. The Garth Brooks event was particularly challenging. ”
She never loses sight of the fact that she is the ‘face’ of Portadown 2000, the first point of contact, and invariably strives to give the right impression.
The role of Portadown 2000 is set to expand further, with the recent acquisition of the adjacent former Thornton Trust listed buildings in Thomas Street, and Loretta is looking forward to the challenges and opportunities this will present.
